2024 Nissan LEAF Performance Explained

The 2024 LEAF has two trim options, each of which has an exclusive electric motor. The S trim has a 110 kW AC synchronous electric motor with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery that can produce 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The SV PLUS has a 160 kW AC synchronous electric motor with a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery that generates 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Both trims have a front-wheel drive drivetrain. 

The estimated fuel economy for the S is 123 MPGe in the city, 99 MPGe on the highway, and 111 MPGe combined. The SV PLUS trim gets an estimated 121 MPGe in the city, 98 MPGe on the highway, and 109 MPGe combined. The EPA-estimated electric range for the S trim is 149 miles, while the SV Plus is estimated to have a range of 212 miles. 

Charging

Both trims come with a 6.6 kW onboard charger and a portable charge cable that can be plugged into a 240-volt wall outlet. The S trim has a 50 kW quick charge port, and the SV PLUS trim has a 100 kW high-output quick charge port. 

With a 240-volt wall charger, the S trim can be charged to 100% in just under eight hours, while a fast charge cable can charge the battery to 80% in 40 minutes. The SV PLUS model can be charged to 100% in 11 hours using the 240-volt wall charger or 80% in 45 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger. Charging the SV PLUS to 80% with a 50 kW DC charger takes about an hour. 

Driver Assistance

The LEAF is also equipped with several driver assistance features to amp up the performance of the electric hatchback. The S trim has cruise control and a rearview monitor, while the SV PLUS has intelligent driver alertness, an intelligent around view monitor, and ProPILOT Assist. 

Both trims come with an e-Pedal, intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, intelligent blind spot intervention, intelligent lane intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear sonar system, rear automatic braking, and active ride control. Features such as intelligent trace control, hill start assist, high beam assist, and vehicle dynamic control with a traction control system are also standard.
